TORAY PLASTICS INTRODUCES NEW LINE OF CLEAR BARRIER OPP FILMS FOR PACKAGING

DESIGNED TO REPLACE PVdC-COATED BOPP FILMS

North Kingstown, R.I. (March 19, 2004)-Toray Plastics (America), Inc., a world leader in the manufacture of clear and metallized polypropylene and polyester films for the packaging industry, has introduced its new line of Torayfan Clear Barrier polypropylene (BOPP) films designed to replace PVdC- coated films.

Torayfan CB-S 70G and 80G heat sealable clear barrier films and Torayfan CB-P 70G non-sealable clear barrier films are non-coated, have moisture transmission rates equal to PVdC-coated films, are non-yellowing, microwavable, environmentally friendly, and contain an industry-leading heat seal layer. These films have increased mechanical properties (tensile strength, Young's modulus, and elongation) yielding 10 percent higher puncture resistance, 30 percent higher stiffness, and improved oil resistance. In fact, Torayfan CB-S films allow for a substantial cost savings over other heat sealable, clear barrier films.

Applications for both the CB-S and CB-P films include the following: MVTR (moisture transmission rate) barrier web of multi-layer laminations, a grease liner for packages requiring oil resistance, and source reduction for thick BOPP webs. Some key features of these films include excellent moisture barrier, superior oil resistance, superb clarity, high-performance in extrusion and adhesive laminations, and outstanding film flatness and roll formation in the CB-S films.
