North Kingstown, RI – New 45-gauge Torayfan PCF, a high barrier metallized OPP film from Toray Plastics (America), Inc., provides cost savings and performance advantages as a replacement to foil in barrier laminations. 45-ga. PCF provides up to 20% cost savings for converters replacing foil in laminations that have traditionally used paper, polyethylene and foil. Typical applications include dry mix pouches like cocoa powder and seasoning mixes, or liquid pouches for salad dressings and shampoo.

45-ga. PCF is a non-sealable film designed as a “drop in” direct foil replacement in multi-layer extrusion and adhesive laminations. This “fit for use” barrier film provides excellent moisture and oxygen barriers, superior puncture resistance, and high yield compared to foil. Furthermore, PCF is not susceptible to the flex cracking and pin holing associated with foil. The end result is a package that maintains excellent barrier properties even after converting, handling and distribution.

In addition to performance advantages, 45-ga. PCF offers metal detection capability as well as improved package aesthetics versus foil. PCF is compatible with the same packaging equipment, sealant, and converting techniques as foil.
