Innovative Co-extruded Heat-Sealable Films
North Kingstown, RI (November 7, 2004) - Toray Plastics (America), Inc.'s versatile PA25 and PA10 are transparent, modified PET films that enable heat seals on multiple substrates, support brand-building graphics, and add value in product shipping, handling, and storage. They are ideal for lidding, flow wrap, and large bag applications in food, drug, medical, agricultural, and pet food markets. Both are FDA-approved for direct food contact. PA25 and PA10 are also suited for industrial applications, including cable wrap, special lamination films, and brushed foil applications. In addition, PA25 and PA10 co-extruded polyester packaging films handle well on high-speed equipment for improved processing and better production yield, and are easy to convert and print on. They offer excellent thermal stability and superior mechanical properties, including high strength, dimensional stability and optical clarity. "Successful converters demand technologically-advanced films that can be quickly adopted for new applications," says Paul Knollmeyer, market development manager. "PA10 and PA25 are versatile polyester films that can offer barrier protection and shelf liefe when required, printing options for powerful aesthetics, excellent COF, and have the stamina to handle faster processing for prompt turn-around." PA25 and PA10 modified for heat-sealability or printability offer superior COF properties that improve handling and storage for the end-user. For example, large bags manufactured for agricultural or pet food applications with PA25 or PA10 resist slipping during shipping and when stacked in large piles on pallets. PA25 can be used as both a mono-film and a lamination film. The new PET film combines several polymers, providing a heat-seal layer that stands up to a broad range of tempuratures. It easily seals to PVC, APET, aluminum foil, paper, paperboard and glass. On its own, PA25 offers good oxygen barrier. Metallization provides moisture barrier, making it a complete food packaging film. PA10 PET is chemically treated for good adhesion of printing inks, including water and solvent based ink systems and aqueous based silicone release coatings. It also accepts corona treatment for special needs.
