North Kingstown, RI-(June 23, 2004) Converters can replace foil in packet and stand-up pouch applications with a new, technologically advanced, ultra-thin, puncture-resistant, metallized barrier OPP film. Toray Plastics (America), Inc.’s new 45-gauge Torayfan® PCF2 provides exceptional moisture and oxygen barrier durability and improved economics over traditional foil. Converters and food manufacturers are able to create foil-free, aesthetically appealing, cost-effective, finished packages that have overall enhanced barrier durability. These advancements eliminate the dissatisfying delaminated “pouch in a pouch” effect that can occur when a consumer opens a weaker package.

At 45-gauge, Torayfan® PCF2 is the thinnest MOPP available in the packaging industry, delivering more film per pound than thicker films. Yet it maintains strong package processing characteristics. Increased footage also enables converters to reduce the number of required roll changes, thus reducing scrap and providing even greater cost savings. Marketers prefer Torayfan® PCF2’s physical properties because, unlike foil, it does not exhibit a “shop worn” appearance after packaging and handling.
