LumBriteTM Films from Toray

Toray Plastics (America), Inc. introduces its LumBriteTM line of directly embossable polyester films for holographic applications. LumBriteTM U6E is the first product to be commercially available. U6E is a polyester film that incorporates several patent pending innovations, enabling the film to be directly embossed for holographic applications. Such a film greatly simplifies the holographic converting process for polyester film. Next month Toray will be introducing LumBriteTM U6E1 which will have an enhanced ink adhesion coating on one side for increased converting capabilities.
In coming months Toray will be adding HRI (High Refractive Index) coated products to the LumBriteTM line. The addition of an HRI coating to directly embossable films will allow hologram manufacturers to economically produce low volume, transparent holograms.
Another Toray innovation, expected to be commercially available in the six to nine month time frame, will be selective HRI coated products, which will enable custom HRI designs to be printed on film.
LumBriteTM films are available in thicknesses from 60 Ga. (15 micron) to 200 Ga. (50 micron). All benefit from Toray’s inline coating and multi-layer co-extrusion technologies yielding bright embossed images, while allowing superior print registration. Films are ideal for security, packaging, printing and high barrier applications.
